Quantum Foundation conducts ‘Covid-19 Funeral Training’ at Bangladesh Red Crescent Society
A training on guidelines to arrange Covid-19 funeral took place at the headquarter of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society at Mogbazar, Dhaka on Tuesday June 09, 2020. Thirteen people participated in the hour-long training from 3.30 to 4.30 pm. Trainees came from Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, Anjuman Mofidul Islam and Bidyanondo Foundation. Saleh Ahmed, coordinator of Covid-19 funeral program of Quantum Foundation, conducted the training.
The training featured proper procedure to arrange funeral following religious rituals of someone dying from Corona in light of experiences of volunteers involved in the activity across the country. A detailed discussion highlighted about necessary accessories for arranging a funeral as well as ways to disinfect the dead-body, cover the body after cleaning and bathing it, carry it in a bag, transport in a vehicle (car/ambulance), place it in the grave and other issues. Besides, participants got a detailed idea about specific instructions from Islamic Foundation regarding funeral prayer.
It is to be noted that Quantum Foundation has been arranging funeral service for unclaimed dead-bodies since 2004. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic from March 27 this year, overall situation in the country changed drastically. As the humanitarian crisis deepened, volunteers of Quantum Foundation came forward and began arranging funeral for Covid-19 deaths from the first week of April.
